MANHASSET, N.Y. — Wireless test vendor Azimuth Systems will join the Long-Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution Trial Initiative that focuses on accelerating the availability of next-generation LTE mobile broadband systems.

With LTE system deployment expected in 2010, the initiative will focus on three main phases: proof of concept, interoperability and trials. Joint testing and reporting of results are expected throughout 2009.

The trials will aim to promote next-generation of mobile broadband networks based on 3GPP Long-Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution specifications. '

Azimuth provides test equipment and channel emulators for Wi-Fi, WiMax, LTE and 2G/3G cellular technologies. Its channel emulators meet the performance requirements of MIMO and OFDM-based systems for both devices and infrastructure.

The initiative was launched in May 2007 by Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone. Other members includes Agilent Technologies Inc., China Mobile, Huawei, LG Electronics, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, NXP, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, Signalion, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Qualcomm and ZTE.
