Are you looking for a comprehensive way to get up to speed on OFDM and MIMO? Here is some information on a new seminar, and some recent related articles that might help get you started. With more than 133 million expected global users by 2012, WiMAX is likely to be incorporated in numerous wireless consumer electronics devices.

Seminars
Keithley Instruments, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) just announced some upcoming seminars. Called simply "OFDM and MIMO," it is a half-day, live presentation on OFDM and MIMO technology, its application, and measurement of WLAN and WiMAX standards. Upcoming dates are: Thursday May 15, 2008 (St. Pete Beach, FL); May 21, 2008 Adelphi (College Park), Maryland; May 29, 2008 (Richardson, TX).

Recommended for recommended for R&D engineers and manufacturing test engineers of wireless devices utilizing OFDM and MIMO technologies such as WiMAX, WLAN, and LTE, the Keithley seminar promises to cover:

  • What OFDM is and how it differs from traditional digital modulation techniques
  • How OFDM is applied to WiMAX and WLAN technology standards.
  • What OFDMA is, how it relates to OFDM, and where it is used.
  • What MIMO is, how it differs from SISO, and how these apply to WiMAX and WLAN.
  • Signal generation and analysis test instrumentation considerations for OFDM.
  • Spectrum measurement techniques and their application to high speed power measurements.
  • SISO Amplifier measurement considerations and techniques.
  • SISO Demodulation techniques and solutions.
  • MIMO measurement considerations.
  • MIMO measurement techniques with respect to spectrum, power and modulation quality.

Agilent Technologies and ETS-Lindgren also have an on-demand webinar, "Radiated Performance Test Challenges for WiMAX Devices." This 1-hour webcast covers the details of the antenna chamber setup and WiMAX protocol mechanisms (UL Padding, Ping, HARQ, Power control) that have been tapped to make a robust TRP and TIS measurements. With WiMAX Wave-2 devices there is significant interest in testing MIMO devices. The Webcast will address the specifics of how RPT testing relates to MIMO devices.
